"... She's terrific, now that she's sober," said the woman sitting next to me, while loudly talking into her cell phone.
Ahh...I haven't been home this early in a long time. I took the train home today. Feels good to change right into my comfy pants and take off my socks and shoes. I've gotta finish this damn history paper so I'll have time to teach myself physics for the test tomorrow. I can't wait.
Well, nothin interesting really happened today. Just another day of school. Same classes, same people, same headache that seems to be growing by the minute. Another issue of our school's newspaper, the "u-high midway", came out today. As always, it's pretty good read at the end of the day. I'm so glad that they're finally addressing race issues in our school. It's about time. The main news feature this time around was " Beauty comes from inside and outside. U-highers say, but looks still count." Great.
The first article that caught my eye was on racial beauty...I was interested at first, but then I realized that they only mentioned Black students at my school. That's totally cool, but whatever happened to the other minorities at our school? There was no mention on those fun-loving Latinos, and of course, nothing on us Asians! I guess it's not a big deal, but it bothered me that no one on the newspaper staff approached other minorities other than Blacks. Reading this article, and past articles dealing with race at my school is great, sure, but at the same time I'm feeling ignored. Maybe the few Asian students at my school are thought to be too shy, quiet, and passive. It's not like we're hiding in little nooks and crannies throughout library, or anything. And if we are, its doesn't hurt to take the effort to reach us.
"welcome to the real world she said to me/ condescendingly/ take a seat/ take your life/ plot it out in black and white"
