This past weekend, I went to Naperville North’s Spring dance. To be honest, I really didn’t want to go. . . but after being persuaded by friends with good intentions, I ended up rushing home after my Science Olympiad competition (yeah, I’m a nerd), taking a shower, and doing last-minute laundry before I drove over to Jill’s house to get ready. Phew! Jill and I were suppose to be dressed and ready to be at Joce’s house by 5:30. . . but seeing how both of us define the meaning of “Asian Time,” we were lucky enough to leave around 6:00. The wind was absolutely crazy that day. I could hear it beat against the windows of my car as I was speeding down Naper, and I saw a couple of lamp-posts that were blown down on the way. See, this is what I don’t get. It was so nice and warm a couple days before, but when the day of the dance comes around it just had to be windy, overcast, and freezing cold. It couldn’t have been a better time to wear pants.
We went straight to *ahem* TGIFridays to wait for the rest of our group. It was so weird going to TGIF decked out in formal dresses and make-up, that Jill and I decided to wait in my homely little Volvo. We kept watching other dance-prone Napervillians go to the “fancier” Italian restaurant on the other side of the parking lot. Whatever. All of them were missing out on the great “Pineapple reminiscent of a Pina Colada Smoothie” I had. When we finally got to NNHS, we danced to ..um.. old school, alternative, and techno mixed by gray-haired DJs. Going in a “stag” group was definitely a very different experience. Yang kept on stepping on all the girls’ feet, and slow dances were just plain awkward. Nevertheless, it sweet just chilling with a bunch of friends afterwards. Definitely a well deserved break. =)
