Jittery City

2005_07_britspara.jpg

Mayor Bloomberg apologized to the five Sikh men visiting from Britain who who were handcuffed, forced to kneel, and basically put on display when a Gray Line tour bus employee called the NYPD because she thought they were suspicious.

"It turned out that these...people did not present any threat whatsoever. It's a shame, and I certainly apologize on behalf of the City of New York. We love tourists and we want them to keep coming here and feel that they ... can go around and enjoy the city."
Gothamist feels this was terrible, and we are relieved that the NYPD didn't shoot them. And the tourists seemed to harbor no ill will, saying they would come back to NYC, but we'll wait a week before expecting a lawsuit.

"You can't even drink Crist-OWL on this one
You gotta drink Crist-ALL
Buy some red wine, a little Gotcha 9-7
This is for the grown and sexy"
haha...yeah.

"Red or green pill, you live and you learn, c'mon!"

since i've been here, i've realized that a lot of flirting happens on the subway train between strangers. subtle flirting - with the eyes. there are many attractive people in new york, and i found myself subway flirting today. though i didn't start it, i played along (not gonna lie) - i even pretended to sleep so it wouldn't be as obvious...yeah, truth is: i'm a loser.

staring, glancing, looking away, and then looking back. if it's mutual, you're lucky. a passing pleasure - before you know it, you've got to get up and leave

don't turn back.

presenting the fantastic adventures of gina and yin

frolicking in the middle of the street

sleeping in the crowne plaza hotel...while not staying at it

arriving at coney island to check-check-check it out

bird watching...and, perhaps, some wishing

lastly, city lights and misty night

Warning: If you're not familar with NYC's metro system, you're not going to understand this entry.

Tonight gave me yet another reason to hate Roosevelt Island. It was 1:30am and as I was riding the F train back home....I find out after a few stops that it has turned into the V train and will no longer stop at my stop. Construction work they said...and for those who don't know, only the F train that goes to R.I. I am told to take the train I'm on to Queens Plaza and then take a bus to R.I. However, I find out that the bus I should take had stopped running at 12:10am. So yeah, I was stranded in some random part in Queens and it was past 2am. I barely had cash on me so cabbing it wasn't an option. How'd I get home? A stroke of luck and tears got a nice MTA patrol car to drive me home. I'm extremely grateful. My God, it took me about an hour and a half to get home..when it should've taken only 20 minutes.

I can't wait to get up for work tomorrow. I feel fantastic (said sarcastically of course).

i didn't want to update so quickly - but this calls for a post.

i am so scared. just when i have the whole apartment to myself, a HUGE COCKROACH falls from the ceiling and lands on the floor as i'm watching tv. it is so incredibly fast and freakin' flies! i didn't realize that cockroaches fly or that i'd scream so loudly from the sight of them! gah. i even brought out the windex (a la my big fat green wedding) - hoping to spray it to death. alas, i've been unable to kill it, let alone handle it's frightening speed. ...it's still in the living room ...crawling...creeping...living...

man, all i wanted to do was watch tv, relax, and rest my tired new york beaten feet...now, i'm just a very paranoid little asian girl living in fear in her own apartment. this sucks, someone save me.

saturday afternoon at the middle eastern street fair...

nothing says "good morning" better than spilling hot coffee on your hand.

*edit

i just started listening to this new British band called Hard-Fi. though they're comparable to the hard rock sounds of Franz Ferdinand and The Killers, each of the tracks i've heard are different - which is hard to come by these days. i especially like their song "Middle Eastern Holiday" despite the fact that "Cash Machine" is their big single. i suggest people get a taste of their music on their website.

42ed street port authority station

My thoughts exactly this morning on the way to work. What an exhausting, but fun, July 4th weekend. I watched the fireworks at South Street Seaport with some good friends and, strangely enough, felt somewhat patriotic. *sigh* Tired at work and addicted to coffee.
