Hot Hot Heat
Today's heat index is reportedly a record high for the city of New York.
Consequences?
1. Not only has my workplace been turning off "unnecessary" lights in the building (i.e. apparently where my desk is at) to save energy, it has also been shutting down numerous elevator shafts.
-I believe that waiting for an elevator here is like waiting for the freakin' F train.
2. Local news has been treating the heat wave like a crisis. We have been told to:
-Wear light and bright colors
-Drink lots of water
-Stay indoors and use very little electricity
-Avoid smoking and alcohol
3. I've started to have morbid thoughts about dying in this heat.
-You know how, in the past, babies have died in cars and houses as a result of a lack of water and cool, free-flowing air? I thought about that yesterday as I sat in my small, no AC living space. Sure, my window was wide open and my fan was on high, but man, I was afraid that I was going to fall asleep and not wake up!
There needs to be a solution to all this panic - like writing xanga entries during work or perhaps, more practically, doing one's work, staying at work, and drinking water. Damn.
